The Captain: Dr. Bryce Kaye

The Experience And Knowlege About How To Stay On Course

Captain Bryce Kaye is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed merchant marine offier with a masters level certification. He has been sailing since he was 18 years old and has been cruising the sounds of North Carolina and the Chesapeak for the past 25 years.

In addition to being an experienced sailor, Dr. Kaye received his B.A. in psychology from Columbia University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology and personality from the University of Illinois.  His earliest research was on the subject of reactance to the elimination of freedom, consistent with his career-long interest in human boundary interactions.  After receiving his doctorate, he directed an outpatient alcoholism treatment program.  In that position, he authored and was the principal investigator for a federal research project on how different personalities interact with alcoholism treatment.  In 1984, Dr. Kaye began his private practice in Cary, North Carolina where he treated marital problems, depression, anxiety, trauma, dissociation and compulsive disorders.  Over the years, he has evolved treatment methods based on principles derived from psychophysiological research. His book about marriage improvement is titled The Marriage First Aid Kit .

Dr. Kaye owns two psychological practices.  One is located in Cary, North Carolina and the other is located in the small river town of Oriental, North Carolina.  In Oriental he lives on his pilothouse sailboat with his wife Helen and their two Yorkshire terriers.  When he is not writing or seeing clients, he and Helen spend their time cruising the sounds and outer banks of North Carolina.
