The 3-Day Love Odyssey

A Romantic Adventure

The 3-Day Love Odyssey is an exquisitely romantic and private adventure for just the two of you.  Your craft will be a luxury pilothouse sailboat built in Finland.  You can view the various sights on the river or shore from either the upper deck seating area or from the climate controlled pilothouse.  Few sailboats have this capability of offering you both.  There will be all sorts of interesting vessels on the open water, passing you on their voyages from far away places.

There are two alternative routes for the trip.  Which one you take will depend on your choice but also on the weather.  On one route, you will be able to explore the quaint historical towns of Beaufort and New Bern in which you dock.  The bed and breakfast inns date back well into the 1800’s. The local restaurants serve fresh seafood and are excellent. Each town has its own colorful history and character.  There are museums, a pre-Civil War cemetery, local entertainment and a plethora of craft and art shops in both towns.  On the other route, you will enjoy the town of Beaufort but also the pristine beauty of Cape Lookout which would be substituted for the New Bern destination.  Cape Lookout is National Seashore park with an scenic anchorage, a famous pre-Civil War lighthouse, an abandoned World Ware II Coast Guard Station and small ghost town onshore.  It is common to see loggerhead turtles surfacing around your boat.

You will enjoy exploring these places together and it will bring you closer together. For more information about each destination, visit its web page: New Bern, Beaufort, Cape Lookout.

Primary and Alternate Routes

Because weather safety is such a controlling factor, no one route can be guaranteed in advance.  There is a primary route that is preferred but adverse weather may force the captain to plot an alternate route in its place.  The routes are as follows:

Primary Route

Day 1 - Orientation in Oriental; sail the lower Neuse River and then sail up to New Bern (6 hours on the water), lunch on board, dock up in New Bern

Day 2 - Sail and motor from New Bern to Beaufort (8 hours), lunch on board, dock up in Beaufort

Day 3 - Sail and motor from Beaufort to Oriental (4 hours), lunch on board

Alternate Route A

Day 1 - Orientation in Oriental; sail the lower Neuse River and then motor sail to Beaufort (6 hours on the water), dock up in Beaufort

Day 2 - Sail to Cape Lookout National Seashore (2 hours); explore the cape on shore, later sail back to Beaufort (2 hours), dock up in Beaufort

Day 3 - Sail and motor from Beaufort to Oriental (4 hours), lunch on boad

Weather Safety Policy

Any responsible mariner knows that safety of passengers and vessel is the highest priority.  All preferred routes and destinations will be evaluated for safety by the captain before departure.   At his sole discretion, the captain may determine that a route or destination change may be warranted due to projected weather or sea conditions.  There may be some days when the captain might even determine that the weather is projected to be too hazardous to leave port.  This is the inherent uncertainty when traveling so close to nature.

If a preferred route is revised by the captain, your preference for an alternate route will be given high priority.  If the total number of days on the water is reduced from the planned trip because of safety, then a prorated portion of the boat-related costs for the missed portion of the trip shall be refunded to you at a rate of $ 100 per hour of on-the-water voyage time..
